summer memories

When is the last time you lay down in the grass? The tall kind, not the short kind, and looked up at the sky? I highly recommend it. We used to do it all the time as kids.  We played hide and seek in the tall grasses, and would look for deer beds to hide in. Have you ever seen a deer bed? I found one right in the yard (before it was hayed). Here is what they look like.

The deer move in a circle before they lie down (like a dog) and it forms this pattern that makes an impression in the grass. Beautiful, isn't it? I think (or wonder) if the smaller one on top was the fawn?

Happy Birthday Bode!

Today is Earth day and my dogs 2nd birthday! What are you doing for earth day? I am going to plant a few trees on my property this week. This morning we went for a walk in the woods, and afterwards stopped by the local market  for Bode and Ruby to pick up a few beef shanks for Bode's birthday.

Here are some more pictures from way back when. Two years ago we picked him up in June when he was eight weeks old. Just a fluff of white! This is Bode, with his mom, Sloan.

I can't believe it's been two years!  HAPPY EARTH DAY ALL! And thank you Bob & Chad, from Overlook Golden's, for bringing so much joy into our lives!

have a lovely spring weekend

I will be walking for the multiple sclerosis society as I do each year on Sunday in Litchfield. This year we get to cut the ribbon, my niece and nephew are so excited.  I am so happy we raised so much money for such an amazing organization. There is still time to contribute if you would like. And a few links from around the web.

1. This cake is so simple, but would make for the sweetest wedding, shower or summer birthday.

2. This couple decided to name their tables rather then giving them a number, if you are dog person like me, you will love it.

3. This looks like the most dreamy honeymoon spot, yes?

4. I've been listening to this song on repeat . Thinking of Boston. I lived in Massachusetts (Cape Cod) for two years after college, so it holds a special place in my heart. Which brings me to this lovely tribute print on Etsy.

5. A stellar  move by the Yankees. (did you know after 9/11 they played New York, New York at Fenway..?)

6. They messed with the wrong city ...a great op ed.

7. My dog, Bode, turns two on the 22nd (the white one).  Did you know people have dog birthday parties?  There are websites out there that give you tips, recipes, and party ideas, how funny is that?

P.S. He was just a puppy it seems not so long ago. Here is a"then" picture.

true love

It's been a crazy week! I hope everyone is looking forward to their weekends! I know I am. The weather took a turn for the better and I got to spend some time late this afternoon gardening! I feel like a better all around human when I get to garden. Nothing distracts me. I am so in the moment. This was taken in the last sweet moment before the sun started going down. These two are so in love. It kills me. And here is a song for your weekend.

winters last hurrah (hopefully)

I think it is safe to say that we (at least on the east coast) are ready for spring. We had sort of a surprise blast of winter on Friday, which the dogs absolutely adored, and I tried to get in the spirt. It was really beautiful, and as you can see from the last picture, by Saturday, most of what had fallen started to melt away with the warm sunshine. I hope you all had a nice weekend xo-kate.

below zero

It’s ten degrees today (without the wind chill factor). I guess New England was due for some cold, since last year we had such a mild winter.  Before this major chill set in I went for a walk on the Belamy Ferridy nature trail.  No one else was around and the still and quiet of winter was so striking (first and 3rd image). The freezing temps have even the dogs not wanting to be outside for more than ten minutes at a time-can you blame them? Trying not to let it get the best of me, and dreaming of warmer days and spring to come.

Stay warm and bundle up-xo, Kate

a snowy day.

It's really starting to feel like winter here in New England. I mulled cider, planted Paperwhite bulbs in a  galvanized steel tub (I love white flowers in steel or silver), and hung my wreath on the front door. I also put some red bows on my window boxes. Maybe they are a little bright? There's snow on the branches now. I wonder how long it will stay? Long enough for another holiday photo session this weekend?

The golden hour (part two)

These late afternoon fall days are not getting old. Enjoy the first official day of fall this saturday, you will find me shooting a wedding at the Lily Lake. The dogs will be playing outside. Have a lovely weekend!

long meadow pond

Winding up this gorgeous late summer (almost fall) day with a quick dip in the lake. I still can't get Bode to swim (he just wades) but at ten, Ruby could play fetch with the tennis ball for eons. That's my girl. How lucky am I to live just a half-mile from such a great spot?

Happy (almost) weekend! I hope you have plans to enjoy the late summer early fall weather we are getting here in New England. I plan on getting in some gardening time and am looking forward to a  family photo session.
PS- if you want to see more pictures from Long Meadow, check out my friend paddle boarding with his adorable miniature labradoodle.

calm waters

Have you ever tried paddle boarding? I want to try it as soon as I get some free time this summer. It is kind of on my bucket list. I am not sure either of my golden retrievers could get up on the board with me though.

happy summer!

Summer is...lakes, oceans, and swimming pools, a "quick" dip (even by the dog), fresh picked berries, an evening on the screened in porch reading your favorite book....what is your favorite part of summer? Happy summer solstice, enjoy this long, hot day friends! (all snapped over the last few days in CT).
