pear salad

This is one of my all time favorite salads, perfect for spring, and the Bartlett pairs are best for this recipe.You can serve it for one or two, but this recipe serves 4-6. 

1/4 cup pecans (about 1 ounce)
3-4 cups mixed baby field greens (torn)
4 bartlett pears (sliced thinly)
2 ounces goat cheese (crumbled)

Dressing:

1 juice of a lemon

2 cloves of garlic

Extra virgin olive oil

This is my go-to dressing, and is great on kale salad too!

To prepare the dressing squeeze the juice of one lemon in a bottle (I like to use old jam jars to keep for making dressing). Use equal parts  EVOO and lemon. Mince the garlic and add to the bottle. Shake, drizzle and serve! This is the easiest salad that somehow comes off as having done a lot of work, but truly, it takes five minutes to make. I have also substituted the goat cheese for blue cheese crumbles, and it is equally good, but obviously has a stronger flavor.

I recently re-read my New Years blog, which not-so gently reminded me of all the things I said I would do, or try differently in 2013. The trickiest part to stating things publicly, is sticking to them. It nudges me back to trying very hard (as we are almost half way through the year) to be true to those things. Easier said then done. Have you looked back at your goals, or resolutions? How are you doing? Some I have held true to, but so many I have let go of. A reminder to myself that I need to stick closely to my goals and those promises I made to myself back in late December. My biggest fail has been # 6, spending too much time on the internet (computer ). How do I remedy that? I suppose the warmer days will lend themselves to more outdoor time. And for some inspiration around the web, here are some links for your weekend.

daffodil hill part two

Im happy to share my first mini session from Laurel Ridge this morning. I was so excited to be able to photograph one of my favorite families (i've documented them since they were tiny). It was nice to spend an easy-breezy afternoon catching up and watching them play. daffodil hill part one

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! It is warm and sunny and  finally I think spring is here to stay in New England. I wanted to post some images I took this past week from a session I did at this amazing daffodil preserve. Later on this week I will post more of the children. There were so many from this session (too much for one post). So bare with me, this week, as everything will be all about the daffodils! I am also going to be offering another spring mini session. The cost and details are below.I thought it was about time that I offer a second round of family  mini sessions! Here is the story. I will be on location for two blocks of time in two different locations; Wednesday, May 1st between 2-5  (rain date for Thr)  at Laurel Ridge in Litchfield and Saturday, May 11th also from 2-5 (weather pending of course)  at March farm, in Bethlehem. Both are insanely gorgeous locations. I will spend about 20-30 minutes with your family, then will send you (digitally) about 10-15 selects (fully edited)- that you can print and share to your hearts content! A feeling of restlessness, excitement, or laziness brought on by the coming of spring.

I picked a few blooms to bring into the house last week and made a few tiny bouquets. We have had such a roller coaster of spring weather, I just can't wait for it to stay warm! Im looking forward to an engagement session on Saturday. I also can't wait to post some pictures from a shoot I did on daffodil hill this week, it was so unbelievably beautiful!

greenhouse florals

Let's backtrack just a bit. I wanted to post these gorgeous spring flowers before I forget. I took a quick trip to The Gardens in Woodbury, CT. As temperatures soared into the high 70's last week, I wanted to stop into my favorite garden shop to peak into the greenhouse. It was busting with spring flowers, both annuals and perennials. Consider visiting a local greenhouse for your wedding decor. All of these flowers make for fantastic wedding flowers; bouquets, table centerpieces , and event decor. Here is a great DIY tip, that really pays off in strides: pot flowering plants yourself for centerpieces in pretty containers and cover with moss. They make for great take-away table decor, and can be given to close friends and family as a thank you after the wedding. As opposed to cut flowers which wilt with-in a day or two, these are keepers! Many will bloom again and again each year.

I didn't leave empty handed, I got some of these pansies and viola for the two planters by my terrace door, because I knew temps would dip back down to the 30's and pansies are really hardy in early spring.

And the baby lambs were running in the meadow? I finally feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my body. Winter this year has been so long, and so un-forgiving here in New England. Truly, it's like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! What are you up to this weekend for Easter? I am so thrilled to be getting out of town for just a few days to see my sister and her family. I finally had some time late this afternoon to get into the garden and weed. After days of rain the sun came out, and everything is green, and buds are everywhere. Early evening in the garden is my favorite time. I strolled through the garden and snapped these with my Nikon D70. Summer is just around the corner.....

a rainy day gives way to lilacs

After months of a draught here in the north-east were finally getting some much needed rain. For a gardner this is a true joy. The lilacs have arrived (my favorite) spring bloom, alongside the lilly of the valley.
