grape hyacinth

I am about to bombard you with more flower pictures (tis the season). I love the smell of grape hyacinth. The dark purple, periwinkle and white are so pretty when paired together. It almost has an ombre effect. I bought the vintage test tube vase  almost 15 years ago in Boulder, CO, and sadly one broke. When pairing flowers for cuttings, think about graduating variations of the same color (works well with lilacs too).

I took these with my iPhone, using the VSCOCAM App, you can download the app here. I was telling a friend, who wanted to take pictures of her flowers, that if set up well, in natural light you can get good shots using your iPhone (you don't need a fancy SLR). I love editing on the go with VSCOCAM and my iPhone.

Color Series: in the pink.

It's been a while since I have done a color series. These pink tulips inspired me. I don't know about you, but come february I need some bright color to cheer me up. Tulips are the perfect flower to take you from winter to spring, aren't they? I'm counting down the days till spring. One month people, one month. xoxo

well hello there fall (color series)

All that rain + wind brought in a fierce change of weather. 60's today, with bright sunshine and a light breeze. With officially just three days till Autumn I noticed today the first leaves changing color. No matter where I have been, and where I have lived, nothing beats fall in New England. Nothing. I can never decide which color is my favorite, orange, yellow or red.

color inspiration: pink + orange

Todays color inspiration, pink and orange. Could you think of a more festive color combination? It screams party! On this somewhat cool rainy-ish day in June, I slipped on my pink tired and true Jack Rodgers, to brighten up my morning, and picked some pink peonies for the house. The orange roses are from my dear friend Carolyn who grew them herself. Lucky me, it was my birthday last friday, and she brought them just for moi!

PS-my dresser always seems to sneak into my photos. I like the image in the background, its my parents in London. The other image, my little sister and I in my moms garden, around 1972.

color inspiration: red, white & blue

The unofficial colors of summer. Why? Because nothing says summer more to me then red, white and blue! The first strawberry crop is small, but sweet and delicious. Fourth of July is just a month from now. We will be knee deep into summer by then! Happy Weekend !

color inspiration: blue + gray

Finding inspiration everywhere I look...even a cloudy, gray, rainy day. As the sun began to set I looked to the sky this time for some color inspiration. The clouds appear to be clearing....if you look closely you can see the drop of rain that landed on my lens while I was shooting.

Couldn't resist snapping a few shots yesterday. I was so inspired by this color, I actually bought some tomatoes and basil so I could make my favorite pasta for dinner. It is almost summer people! Enjoy the rest of the sunshine this weekend in the Northeast!

Collecting bouquets has never been so much fun. A continuation of my color series from the garden. The fabric courtesy of my closet (thanks Lilly). I don't have a lot of pink sitting around.

color series: red & blue

I have almost every color in my garden right now.  Stay tuned for yellow, orange, purple, and green. Thanks to my great friend, Debra for finding this old CT milk bottle at a tag sale (in Ohio of all places) . And also thanks to Debra, for her patience almost ten years ago while shopping in Lisbon, Portugal for the blue and white dish towel I so treasure.  I think I spent hours at that little shop. Everything has a story behind it. That is what I love about photography. P.S. in case you are wondering those are heirloom black beauty tomatoes.

A Shot of Color

I love working in black and white portraiture. I used to only shoot black and white film. So working with bright bold images is a departure for me--and I love it in the middle of January. I had so much fun manipulating these images. And it is nice to get a shot of bright colors in the winter, when everything seems to be black, gray, and white. All the images are original flower images that I then played around with on Photoshop.
