a summer-like weekend

I hope everyone in the Northeast enjoyed the gorgeous summer-like weather this past weekend. With no wedding this weekend I got a lot done in the garden. I planted all my annual flowers in pots, and planted some herbs, lavender and heirloom tomatoes in my newly renovated kitchen garden. I even re-pourposed an old chair that has been sitting  collecting dust in the garage, by painting it white. It's a nice little spot to rest in the the Kitchen garden . The weekend ended with a beautiful sunset, and some tired golden retrievers.

Little fact: The name Kitchen Garden evolved simply because the lady of the house planted a small plot near her home and usually near the back door that lead into her kitchen. While the term dates back to the settlers, the kitchen garden was popularized again in the great depression.

PS-for all the gardeners out there. Here is a list of the herbs in the garden (so far). Feel free to recommend some you love!

Chives
Basil
Sage
Dill
Cilantro
Winter Savory
Summer Savory
Lemon balm
Mint
Rosemary
Lemon Thyme

  1. I can't believe you've got fruit already!!! I only have flowers on my strawberry so far. I don't mind telling you that more than just my thumb is green ... with envy! =)

  2. I am pretty excited about the fruit. I planted them three years ago-and barley got fruit, I moved them last fall, and voila! Fruit. Who knew?
